Chess game launching at Trust Mountain Academy

On 20th January 2024, a player and a member of Rwanda Chess Federation Mr GANZA Kevin accompanied with Mutabazi Protais, a staff in charge of chess in Northern Province launched chess game at TMA.

After creating Karate Club at TMA, APPES Shyorongi decided to initiate chess game at its school. We want to build in TMA students the creativity, confidence, concentartion, memory, problem solving, exercising brain and so many other importance of playing chess. Playing chess requires a great deal of critical thinking and regular practice will improve cognitive function hence students will become more mentally sharp and alert. Playing chess will develop social aspects such as fair play, self-confidence and respect for others.

The president of APPES Shyorongi motivated 20 students who start playing chess at first and encourage them to attend regularly. Ganza Kevin gave a brief history of chess in Rwanda and said that he is happy as he started playing chess when he was 9 years old. He has been in many competitions of chess in different countries all over the world such as in Russia, South africa, England,…
